The original creation of this painting is 8″x10″ and is done in Windsor & Newton oils on linen canvas board. This is the last painting of this subject that I created this year on site at Lido Key in Florida. Ready for hanging in your favorite room and framed with a modest teak frame for a finished size of 9″x11″.
Skimmers are a medium-sized tern like seabird with very long wings and an outsized bill in which the lower mandible is much longer than the upper. They are very popular in Florida during the mid to late spring times for mating and nesting and can be seen flying very low and close to the water as they “skim” for nutrients. Often hundreds of birds will next together creating quite a spectacle.
