Little Blue Heron Fishing

UPDATE JAN/2021 — The local Florida County Fair awarded this painting as “Best of Show” over hundreds of other paintings exhibited at the Fair.  So many wonderful comments and compliments.

This painting was done on  Strathmore Bristol 140 pound acid free paper and Faber Castell Polychromos (fade resistant) colored pencil  The original painting is 11″x14″, matted to 16″x20″ and the original painting is glassed and custom framed to 20″ x 22″.

I added a gallery of progressive photos and thought you might find it interesting to see the process in completing this painting.

Living in Florida provides year round access to the diverse bird species we can enjoy.  This is an adult Little Blue Heron who is very dark all over. At close range or in good light, they have a rich purple-maroon head and neck and dark slate-blue body. The photo was taken at the Robinson Preserve in Bradenton FL, and he was so intense on his fishing ability.  They have yellow eyes, greenish legs, and a bill that is pale blue at the base, black at the tip. Juveniles are entirely white, except for vague dusky tips to the outer primaries. Immatures molting into adult plumage are a patchwork of white and blue.

Remember, museum quality giclee copies are also available; please indicate your preference when ordering.  Call for pricing
